Going Beyond with Anshuman Dhar

Meet Anshuman Dhar, Senior Product Designer at Beyond. Learn how he transitioned from big tech to a global team where design truly influences product strategy.

In our latest Going Beyond blog post, our series that aims to show what it’s really like to work at Beyond, we spoke to Anshuman Dhar to learn more about his experience at Beyond.

Anshuman is a Senior Product Designer and below, he discusses his journey to Beyond, his experience, and what he loves most about being part of our dynamic company.

How long have you been at Beyond, and what is your role?

My role is Senior Product Designer. I joined in October 2022 and have been at Beyond for a little over three years. In that time, I've had the chance to work across most of our product surfaces, which has been a really rewarding experience.

What brought you to Beyond?

Before Beyond, I'd spent most of my career at more established companies and big tech in India. I loved the exposure those roles gave me, but I wanted to see what it was like to work at a truly global company, which led me to pursue my master's degree.

After that, I was back to interviewing with big tech companies, because that was the only career path I could think of. I learned about and considered Beyond after David Kelso, one of the co-founders, saw my portfolio and had a recruiter contact me.

I later learned he reached out because he thought I'd be a great culture fit, based on the amount of personality I'd put into my portfolio. That really meant a lot to me, none of the other companies I'd been interviewing had cared enough about how much time and effort I had put into making my portfolio. It was the first thing that stood out, and from there, every single person I spoke with during the interview process was so refreshing. They all felt like people I'd genuinely love working alongside. The idea of joining a smaller team where I'd have real autonomy was incredibly appealing, so I took the leap of faith and haven't looked back since.

What's a project at Beyond that you're especially proud of, and why?

Honestly, it's like asking someone to choose their favorite child, there are too many to pick just one. I'm proud of the work we've done to modernize our navigation and make the platform look and feel more contemporary and intuitive. I'm proud of the accessibility improvements we made, like introducing higher-contrast colors and making it easier for people to sign up and get started. I'm proud of the work we did to simplify the account connection process, and of bringing in-platform notifications to life. Each of these touched a different part of the user experience, and together they represent a real evolution of the product.

How does design influence the product strategy at Beyond?

Not to get too philosophical, but one of my favorite thinkers, Erica Hall, frames design as a bridge between what is and what ought to be, and I think that captures it perfectly. A lot of product strategy lives in words, documents, and conversations. The moment you bring visuals into the room, you give people something tangible to agree or disagree with, and that moves things forward. Design also has a unique ability to connect different threads and see how they fit into the bigger picture, systems thinking, first-principles thinking.

That's how design influences product strategy at Beyond: by making the abstract concrete and helping the team see the full picture.

How do Product, Design, and Engineering collaborate at Beyond?

The short answer is: very closely and very hands-on. We're all in the trenches together. Design is involved from the very start — from defining what we want to build and why — all the way through execution and QA to make sure what ships matches the intent behind the design. We have weekly syncs, pairing sessions, and a very flat organizational structure where everyone has a real voice. It's genuinely collaborative, not just collaborative in name.

What are you most excited about for the future?

We've only scratched the surface. Our customers in this industry have historically been underserved by technology; many are still wrangling interfaces that look like they were built in the '90s and 2000s. Technology has come so far, and we want to make Beyond the most user-friendly platform out there, a true no-brainer. There's still a lot of work to do to get there, and that's exactly what makes it exciting.

What is your favorite part about working at Beyond?

It might sound cheesy, but it's the people. It's genuinely rare to find the kind of culture we have here. People care deeply about the work, and they care about you as a human. There's no politics or posturing. Instead, Beyond is full of a bunch of kind, respectful people trying to do great work together. I love hearing stories about people's kids, seeing how much everyone respects each other's time, and watching working parents thrive here. Add in the ability to work from anywhere, how global our team is, and a culture that truly values your well-being — having friends at other companies, I know how rare that is. I don't take it for granted.

Our Going Beyond series aims to pull back the curtain and show what it’s really like to work at Beyond. Our five core values provide structure for our company decisions, interactions, and work: We Care, We Go Beyond, We Are On The Same Team, We Inspire Trust and We Ship It. If these values resonate with you, then you belong at Beyond too! Check out our careers page for more information and to see open positions: https://www.beyondpricing.com/about/careers
