Marcos is a Staff Engineer, and below he discusses his journey to Beyond, his experience, and what he loves most about being part of our dynamic company.
How long have you been at Beyond and what is your role?
I've been at Beyond for 5 and a half years, and I currently hold the position of Staff Engineer. My journey here has been rewarding, and I've had the privilege of witnessing and contributing to Beyond's growth and evolution since its early days.
What brought you to Beyond?
I was drawn to Beyond because of its unique blend of innovation and collaboration. When I met the founder, I was struck by the passion and vision for creating a platform that truly makes a difference in the industry. The company's core values - "We Care," "We Go Beyond," "We Are On The Same Team," "We Inspire Trust," and "We Ship It" - really resonated with me. I saw an opportunity to join a team that not only values technical excellence but also fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. It was clear that Beyond was a place where I could grow both personally and professionally, and I was excited to be part of it.
What has changed since you joined the company?
Since I joined, Beyond has undergone significant growth and transformation. The team has expanded, and our projects have become more complex and ambitious. As the company has grown larger, it's become more difficult to align and coordinate our efforts across a larger number of people. Technically, our projects have become more challenging due to the increased number of customers we serve. We play a critical role in our customers' businesses, which means we cannot afford to fail or make mistakes. This added responsibility has raised the stakes and complexity of our projects. However, what has remained constant is the company's dedication to its core values and the emphasis on teamwork and innovation.
What is the main focus of your role?
As a Staff Engineer, my main focus is on providing technical direction, mentorship, and guidance to other developers. I work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our software projects meet high standards of quality, scalability, and reliability. My role involves a mix of technical leadership, project management, and strategic planning to align our technical initiatives with the company's objectives. I also play a critical role in designing and architecting complex software systems, evaluating new technologies, and mentoring junior engineers to help them develop their technical skills and navigate complex technical challenges. Additionally, I facilitate collaboration among teams, manage project timelines, and ensure that our projects are delivered on time and within budget.
What are some of the challenges you and your team face?
One of the main challenges we face is finding the right balance between innovation and stability. As we aim to deliver cutting-edge solutions, we also need to ensure that our software is reliable, secure, and meets high standards of quality. This is a delicate balance, as we can't afford to sacrifice stability for the sake of innovation, nor can we compromise on innovation to maintain stability.
What is your favorite part about working at Beyond?
My favorite part about working at Beyond is the collaborative and supportive environment. What I enjoy most is working alongside incredibly talented and smart individuals who challenge me every day. It's not just about professional growth; I've also had the pleasure of forming lasting friendships with some of my colleagues, which makes coming to work even more enjoyable.
